Just wondering... Do you prime the illustration board with gesso or anything? My attempts at using paper-related support has been weird... about 1 mm into the brushstroke the paint is off the brush, regardless of how much I load it.
yeah, I put down three thin coats of gesso to prime it, cut with some water to keep it thin and smooth. It still has alot of grab though, which I like. I'm working on a process video coming up in the next month or two which I'll try and talk about all that in detail :)
Thanks... I like the idea of using up this stack of mat board that I bought for five cents each to get some more "brush time". Looking forward to the video.
I'd think mat board should work. When I was in school, students would even use cardboard from the dumpster and cigar box lids, anything flat that you can cover in gesso
